October 19, 2007: engagement / proposal

In Maggie's words: Josh proposed to me with his grandmother's ring, which is actually an engagement and wedding band soldered together, so from the second I put it on I went from a girlfriend to a wife. After taunting me with the ring several times over the months leading up to the moment, I thought I would never get it! So I was somewhat surprised (read: my mouth was gaping open in disbelief) when he actually popped the question after dinner at Marco's, a restaurant in Indianapolis. I kept saying, "For real? Really? Are you sure?!"

Josh & Maggie after the proposalThe "moment," although lovely, was fraught with just a few funnies: the overly-attentive waiter felt the need to descend upon us and ask if we would like dessert at the most inopportune moment; we were seated at a corner booth, which prevented Josh from being able to get out of the booth and onto one knee; Josh called my dad and told him the news, after which he passed the phone to me. It was quickly apparent that he hadn't heard anything Josh said:

Dad: "Maggie? Is everything okay?"
Maggie: "What do you mean? We just got engaged!"
Dad: "What??"
Maggie: "Didn't you hear anything Josh just said? He just proposed and we're getting married!"
Dad: "Oh, no. The phone kept going in and out. I guess I missed a critical part of the conversation?!"

A few weeks after the proposal we shopped around for a new engagement ring and were lucky to find a beautiful stone and setting. I love it and I still wear grandma's rings when I feel the need for full-on bling.
